2020: Coping with Change

Life is not static and how we handle change is the only thing we can control. How positive the outcome will be is dependent on our behaviour, personality traits, physical abilities and coping styles. We face daily insignificant challenges and devastating turning points in life. I have learned that challenges can come in the form of disappointments, relationships, finances, fears, physical health, mental decline, loss and a worldwide pandemic. I have witnessed this year how physical exercise can keep us connected, help us de-stress and cope with challenges in every day life.

Physical abilities that assist us in staying active, coping with change and aging well are strength, coordination, speed, power, stamina, balance and flexibility. One must work at these abilities, and should see functional movement as a lifelong task and necessity.

Life can be frustrating and difficult. However, if we stay positive and identify the opportunities that present itself from a challenge or see hardship as a wake up call, we can implement changes in our life and subsequently manage to learn and grow throughout our life course. I would like to thank you all for giving me purpose during 2020. Wishing you a Happy New Year.
